Viking Helmets
Viking Helmets strike fear in your enemies. Viking Helmets for ravaging villages and sports events. Viking Helmets and accessories to launch raids by sea. Seafaring northern Europeans from what is now Scandinavia ruled the coastline from the 9th to the 11th century. Through fearsome raids they colonized wide areas of Europe and dominated the seas as they conquered. Extraordinary as shipbuilders and sailors their adventures carried them far and wide through Europe and as far south as Africa. Inspired by the ease of conquest and lure of riches they bore down on coastal villages and took advantage of the newly flourishing trade routes leaving their influence behind as they moved on. Early morning raids were their specialty. Dragon ships would reach the beach and tall blond men came streaming out, shouting battle cries. Heavily armed with swords and battle-axes, they attacked the sleepy villages. Killing many of the villagers, some of the youths and maidens were taken and their loot was hauled away. The Norsemen permanently affected English social structure, dialect, and names. To the west, they settled in Iceland by 900, then traveled to Greenland and North America as their foot hold grew. Sailing Norsemen crossed unforgiving waves in search of whatever plunder that could be had. Adorned with fearful images of dragons, beasts and menacing horns they marched through lands long settled and peaceful. Bulky blonde marauders from the mystic north set to the sea as their own lands became over populated. These marauders were skilled ship builders and most any sea side village was fair game for raiding. The typical Norse ship was low, sleek and strong. Designed with a prow at either end for rapid re launching and fitted with easily steered sails, they were also capable of being rowed. With a crew of between 40 and 60 men these mighty ships could even be towed across short marsh lands and beaches. This allowed small groups to be fast enough to evade detection making a sudden raid from a beach landing only to be put out to sea again before defending forces could be mustered against them. A decisive advantage was the ability to make a ocean crossings without hugging the coastlines, in doing so they achieved the element of surprise. Early attacks were made by small bands. But as the rewards grew more men and more ships were launched, each one roaming farther and farther from the homelands. In the north and east they attacked the Lapps, Finns, and Russians. To the west they conquered and held large parts of Britain and Ireland for many generations. To the south they occupied northern France. Pushing east from what is now Greenland they even ‘discovered’ America 500 years before Columbus.
